The Sony Alpha Convention 2011 - Great Prizes and Fun Activities this March 11 to 13


Kuala Lumpur, 10th Feb 2011 – Sony a Convention 2011, held from 11 to 13 March 2011, at Hall 1 Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre will be the event to look out for in 2011. ThemedTantalizing Asia, the 3-day Sony a Convention 2011 has put in place a host of activities that are educational and fun for Sony a cameras fans, the alphanatic members and also visitors to the convention. In addition, 21 guest speakers & experts from various photography industries will also be there to share their experiences, tips and tricks, everything you need to know about photography at Sony a Convention 2011.

New activities are added everyday and the latest programme which will be held at the convention includes the Sony a Convention Photo Contest and the LIVE Magazine Spread Photo Shoot.  Sony a Convention Photo Contest is open to all residents of Malaysia, with prizes including a Sony a NEX Series up for grabs. There’s so much that goes on behind-the-scenes in the magazine shoots. Go behind the scene to see what goes around at a real editorial team shoot for a magazine spread at Live Magazine Spread Photo Shoot session.  

The latest line-up of Sony a DSLR cameras and a NEX Series, lens accessories will also be showcased at the convention. The unique features of Sony digital imaging solutions such as the Translucent Mirror Technology, will be available for visitors to see, touch, feel and experience at the convention. There’s also a photo gallery that showcases some of the works from the speakers and Sony a users.

Latest Speakers Highlights
Bernice Chauly
Seeing the world through Bernice Chauly’s lenses means one thing: the love for humanity. Having 15 years of experience in taking pictures and exclusively experimenting with black and white film, she delved deep into working around human condition. Today, her popularity is unrivalled as a portraiture and documentary photography. However this aspiring young lady never settled for small stuff as she ventures beyond photography into writing, poetry and filmmaking altogether.

Till date, she has received numerous commissions from agencies like the UNDP, UNHCR and most recently the Goethe-Institut and the Freidrich-Naumann Foundation. Also having received appreciation for her contribution to the arts in Malaysia, Chauly has expanded her horizon to Turkey, Japan and Singapore where she successfully exhibited her works.
Gary L. Friedman
Writer, photographer and business entrepreneur –Gary L. Friedman is the man.  Being an active Sony and Zeiss user, not only has he traveled the world as a professional photographer, he also runs the stock image website FriedmanArchives.com.  Before graduating to photography he was a rocket scientist for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he patented the image authentication system now used in high-end digital cameras from Canon and Nikon. 

One of his best works are the 1988 “Peace Child in Latvia” – a photojournalistic documentary about the historic exchange between Soviet and American high-school student back in the days of the cold war. Most importantly, he sees the need to share the fun and approachability in photography by writing several highly-acclaimed e-books on the Sony cameras.
Grant Corban
With more than 20 years of experience in wedding photography, international wedding photographer - Grant Corban, whose photojournalistic style of shooting weddings with a more candid reportage style in contrast to the staid traditional styles of the past tells a unique romantic story. This New Zealander, now settled in Malaysia, became a leader in the Malaysian wedding scene with his fresh unique images, consistent quality and the early launching of the now popular coffee table book albums. 

Grant’s work has attracted the interest of various magazines and publications. Recognized for his commitment to excellence, Grant has been commissioned to cover destination weddings in India, Bali, the UK, Australia and the USA.
